(IE Math, History and other terms for different classes). I know I can look them up on different dictionaries, but I'm curious about how they would be used in Japanese chats(IE adding up costs with your Japanese speaking friends, discussing different parts of school and so on)
http://onjapanese.com/questions/368/how-do-i-use-on-and-kun-readings-to-learn-how-to-properly-pronounce-kanji How do I use ON and Kun readings to learn how to properly pronounce Kanji? Rachel 2010-04-02T14:05:55Z 2010-04-02T14:18:40Z
Whenever I look up a Kanji character, there is an ON and a Kun reading in my dictionary.

How do I know which one is the way to pronounce the Kanji?

Please note, I am a beginner learner, only 3 months so far!
http://onjapanese.com/questions/263/learning-different-styles-of-japanese Learning different styles of Japanese Koiyuki 2010-02-09T02:34:47Z 2010-03-09T19:27:41Z
One overriding theme I've noticed in learning Japanese and consuming the media of the country is how vastly different the vocabulary and way someone speaks is between people affecting different levels of politeness in different contexts. My main question is what should the base level of vocabulary a student should get down before moving on to the others, or does that rely on the intent of the student?

The less important questions I have revolves around the use of Japanese in fighting games. Aside from learning the regular vocab, what specific terms should I know if I want to better understand it(example:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trwyy_RnFfM&feature=related)? One term I seem sounds something like 'seki ari' and translates to opening, but nothing I've pored over states that meaning with those words. What would the term for an opening be, in terms of facing someone in combat?
http://onjapanese.com/questions/271/the-different-ways-to-use-ii The different ways to use 'ii" Koiyuki 2010-02-17T02:19:55Z 2010-03-06T03:27:00Z
I was doing a bit of home study when I found a few things on 'Ii' and a lot of different ways to use it, like with different conditional forms, after a verb stem, and so many others. What I'd like to know, is just kind of uses does Ii have with different grammatical forms?
http://onjapanese.com/questions/247/what-are-some-things-a-beginner-japanese-student-should-know-about-when-they-begi What are some things a beginner Japanese student should know about when they begin studying the language? Koiyuki 2010-02-02T01:53:33Z 2010-02-17T01:26:13Z
I was talking to a few of my Japanese student friends about this, and they told the first thing they should know is how to get around town, order food and other such things, with specific grammar following shortly. As an anateur teacher of the language, one of the most upsetting trends I see with students of the language is that for all they know about grammar, they have close to 0 knowledge on any relevant topics to use that grammar practice with, and as such leads me to think along with learning the language, they should also educate themselves on the different aspects of the culture and current events in the country so they have something worth talking about as they build up their vocab and grammar skills. What do you guys think?
